Spencer was established by George C. Spencer in South Bend, Indiana around 1910. Spencer had several subsidiary brands: Mai Ton, Veritas, La Main and Merice.
Soap Gazette and Perfumer - Volumes 13-14, 1911:
"The Spencer Perfume Co of South Bend, Ind. has been incorporated in Indianapolis. The concern which will engage in the manufacture of perfumes and toilet articles is capitalized at 10,000. The directors of the new association are George C Spencer HM Spencer and Dr FG Conklin."
The American Perfumer and Essential Oil Review, 1912:
"Spencer Perfume Co South Bend Ind has been incorporated with 10,000 capital stock to manufacture perfumery and toilet articles by George C Spencer Harriet M Spencer and Dr FG Conklin."
The Dry Goods Reporter - Volume 43, Issue 2,1913:
"The Spencer Perfume Co. formerly located at 565 W Washington street, Chicago. has moved to much larger quarters at 9 South Clinton street. This company was situated in South Bend,Ind. until about a year ago when it came to Chicago. The frequent moves are indicative of a rapidly growing business."
Drug & Chemical Markets - Volume 16, 1925:
"GC Spencer Spencer Perfume Co. South Bend, Ind. Regardless the standardization of bottles, so far as perfume and toilet articles are concerned, this can never be accomplished, as practically every manufacturer desires to have something more or less individual. We, ourselves, buy practically no stock shapes, using only those designs we create."
In 1932, George C. Spencer, founder and president, Spencer Perfume Co., South Bend, Ind., died in that city April 10, aged 54.
