Parfumerie Diaphane

Established in 1881 by Mr. A. Reverchon at 48 avenue Parmentier, Paris. Reverchon created a rice powder for the face in 1879 and named it La Diaphane, he named his company after his best selling product.

Parfumerie Diaphane exported its products around two-thirds in most of Europe, in Indo-China to Japan in the Caribbean and off the coast of Pacific.

Parfumerie Diaphane was located at 4 rue Edith-Cavell, Courbevoie, Seine, France.

Key products included aforementioned sheer face powder, Poudre Diaphane, used and endorsed by actress Sarah Bernhardt, and the perfume, Diaphane Pensée. Prizes for previous exhibitions, received the bronze medal in Paris, 1889.

Company was taken over by brothers Jules and Paul Ehrmann in 1889.

Company was taken over by G. Mazuyer et Cie around 1891 at 32 avenue de la Opera, Paris. A later address was located at 38, rue d 'Enghien.

Any perfume or product from this company is extremely rare.

Revue illustrée, Volume 15, 1896:
"The Diaphane Perfumery, whose famous Sarah Bernhardt rice powder has long established its reputation throughout the world, now offers us a new elite creation, Eau d'Ambre. This eau de toilette with a great persistence of perfume and 'a delicate aroma that reveals true elegance can be used indiscriminately on the handkerchief or in the spray. The worldly public has already granted Eau d'Ambre its letters of great naturalization. "

According to a 1904 recipe I found in the Bulletin of Pharmacy, La Diaphane powder was made up of 4 oz of zinc oxide, 24 oz of precipitated chalk (preferably English), 4 oz of talcum powder (preferably Venetian chalk) , 8 oz of starch, 2 drams of essence of rose, 2 drams of essence of jasmine, 2 oz of essence of orange blossoms, 2 oz of essence of cassie, and 1 dram tincture of musk.
