Smitty by Coty c1976

Launched in 1976, Smitty was Coty's fragrance for the disco scene and probably their answer to Revlon's Charlie. This was super popular among the younger crowd in the late 1970s and into the early 1980s. Where they got the name Smitty from is anybody's guess.

"Smitty's the spirited, sexy new feeling in fragrance. Smitty gives you a feeling that electric, exciting. And only Smitty does it. Smitty by Coty "

The advertisement's were light-hearted, mischievous and carefree.. "When you're feeling so free, everybody can see, Smitty did it!" - was kind of like saying, "The Devil made me do it."

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a fresh green chypre fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: grapefruit, bergamot, aldehydes
  • Middle notes: galbanum, Bulgarian rose, spices, flowers
  • Base notes: vetiver, oakmoss, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, ambergris

Smitty was available in concentrated cologne, spray mist, soap, bath bubbles, dusting powder in a ball shaped shaker and a Smitty Scented Powder Mitt.

From a 1978 ad "COTY SMITTY COLOGNE SPRAY . Frisky, fresh, with more than a touch of sex appeal. Lusty, rousing, high-spirited. 1.8ounce. non-aerosol.$5.00"

Fate of the Fragrance:

Smitty has been discontinued for many years.
