Byblos by Byblos Parfums c1989

Byblos by Byblos Parfums: launched in 1989, in USA by 1992. in association with Diana da Silva Cosmétiques. Created by Greek-born, but Paris-based perfumer, Ilias Ermenidis.

Launched in Italy in April 1990.




Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? It is classified as a green-woody floral fragrance for women. It is a fresh green, fragrant tender floral bouquet with tangy fruit tones. A magical bouquet, inspired by the Mediterranean. Top notes: marigold, grapefruit, mandarin and violet. The middle notes: gardenia, mimosa and honeysuckle. The base notes: shaded and spicy notes of vetiver, musk and pepper."

  • Top notes: bergamot, cassie, blackcurrant, marigold, peach, mandarin, pineapple, grapefruit, violet, passionfruit
  • Middle notes: rose, violet, heliotrope, gardenia, lily of the valley, honeysuckle, mimosa, gardenia, jasmine, lily, ylang-ylang, orris, orchid
  • Base notes: pepper, vetiver, raspberry and musk

Bottles:


Presented in a distinctive Mediterranean blue round bottle with gold flower stopper, the design was inspired by the shape of a Phoenician amphora with a sculptured ochre coloured desert rose stopper.

 


 Fate of the Fragrance:

Discontinued, date unknown. Reformulated and relaunched in 2002.



Byblos Uomo (also called Byblos Pour Homme) was released in 1990 in Europe In association with Diana da Silva Cosmétiques which caused the female version of Byblos to be dubbed Byblos Donna (Byblos Pour Femme) to differentiate the two fragrances. Byblos Uomo was launched in the USA in 1994.


Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? Byblos Uomo is classified as a crisp citric fougère fragrance for men.

  • Top notes: bergamot, green lemon, grapefruit, orange and petitgrain
  • Middle notes: tarragon, rosemary, tangerine and wormwood
  • Base notes: rosewood, patchouli, sandalwood, musk and cedar


Bottle:


Presented in a cylindrical deep blue bottle with starred stopper emblazoned with the Byblos ‘B’ logo designed by Joel Desgrippes. It was available in 50ml and 100ml Eau de Toilette sizes.


Fate of the Fragrance:


Byblos appears to still be in production, but I believe it has suffered from reformulations.
