Les Parfums Eliane

Eliane of 79 Rue des Petits Champs, Paris, was a milliner who brought out her signature perfume, Le Parfum d'Eliane in 1927.

Creating both hats and perfume suggests a keen sense of style and a deep understanding of aesthetics. "Le Parfum d'Eliane" must have been quite the sensation in 1927, Paris being a hub of fashion and fragrance. I wonder what inspired her to transition from millinery to perfumery?

The perfumes of Eliane:

Bottles:

American Perfumer & Essential Oil Review, 1927:

"Eliane, who is a modiste, is now offering Les Parfums d'Eliane - as announced on the front of her newly repaired shop of the Rue de la Paix. The bottles are like big balls with facets, containing a golden liquid, and the boxes are quite luxurious with rosy designs on a silver paper. "

Fairchild's International Magazine, 1927:

"The perfume just launched by the couturier, Eliane, offers several different fragrances in a new combination. It is presented in a bottle of lovely form in beaded crystal, with a box of modern geometric design in pink, black and silver which is also employed for the Eliane powders. Face cream and eau de cologne are offered in the same fragrance."

The bottle shown in the ad below was designed by Julien Viard and was made in black glass with a gilded stopper, the bottle in that capacity was used by Eliane; Clio et Claire; and El Encanto department stores of Cuba for their signature perfume. The bottles were produced in France by Cristalleries de Nancy.

It's intriguing how much attention to detail and craftsmanship went into every aspect of Eliane's perfume, from its creation to its presentation. The collaboration with Julien Viard and the use of black glass with a gilded stopper must have made for a stunning combination. The fact that the same bottle design was adopted by other prestigious establishments like Clio et Claire and El Encanto speaks to its timeless elegance. France's Cristalleries de Nancy, known for their exquisite glasswork, undoubtedly added to the allure of these perfumes. It's remarkable how the worlds of art, fashion, and fragrance intersect in such beautiful ways.

Presented in its hexagonal cylinder box in cardboard sheathed in polychrome paper with modernist decoration, colocynth bottle in colorless pressed glass molded with molded picot decoration, topped with its matching cap enhanced with pink and black enamel, with its tassel label.

The attention to detail in the presentation of Eliane's perfume is truly remarkable. The hexagonal cylinder box, adorned with modernist decoration, likely made it stand out on the shelves of perfume boutiques. The use of polychrome paper added a touch of vibrancy and elegance to the packaging.

As for the bottle itself, the use of colorless pressed glass with molded picot decoration sounds exquisite. The matching cap enhanced with pink and black enamel would have added a pop of color and sophistication. And the tassel label sounds like a delightful finishing touch, adding a playful yet chic element to the overall design. Eliane's commitment to aesthetic excellence is evident in every aspect of her perfume's presentation.
