Lady by Jovan c1983

Lady by Jovan was launched in 1983.

The fragrance was available as:
  • 1/4 oz Perfume
  • 1/5 oz Perfume Spray
  • 1 oz Cologne Splash
  • 1.7 oz Cologne Splash
  • 1 oz Spray Cologne Concentrate
  • 1.7 oz Spray Cologne Concentrate
  • 4 oz Dusting Powder
  • Compact holding 0.6 oz solid perfume and 0.2 oz solid cologne

A 1983 ad introduced us to the Lady and Gambler Fragrances, a line inspired by songs made popular by Kenny Rogers:
"Millions of people have loved the song, now the song and the fragrance are united in Lady by Jovan. Here is a fragrance that lovingly expresses the same tenderness and emotion evoked by that song. Romantic and fragile, gentle as a lover’s embrace. Its soft spoken elegance whispers the fine composition of orange blossom and peach, warm jasmine, muguet, rose de mai and chypre."

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral-woody aldehyde fragrance for women. It starts with a fruity aldehydic top, followed by a rosy floral heart, resting on a sensual balsamic base.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, peach, fruity notes, green notes, citrus
  • Middle notes: damascena rose, orris, violet, carnation, heliotrope, tuberose, gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine, lily of the valley, rose de mai
  • Base notes: cedar, benzoin, vanilla, balsam, oakmoss, sandalwood, musk, amber, patchouli

A 1983 ad reads:
"Lady cologne from Jovan. Now, love and romance are captured in a sweet fragrance. It only takes one drop to see why it's the favorite of many women."

Fate of the Fragrance:

I think the perfume was discontinued in the mid 1980s.
