Mexicali Musk by Coty c1988

Some of you may remember a kitschy cologne for men called Mexicali Musk, a herbals, spicy musky men’s fragrance which Coty debuted in 1988. Coty's senior marketing manager Arthur Sherwood states that “Mexicali Musk, is named after a town on the border of Mexico and California.“

The company decided on the name because it sounds like a brand of tequila with its famous worm inside, Mezcal. When the tequila is consumed, tradition dictates that one has to eat to worm as well, which is supposedly going to help you increase your sexual prowess. Sort of like an all natural Viagra. The worm is also reportedly irresistible to women. Though, how any woman would be seduced by a disgusting grub worm is beyond my comprehension.

However, you don’t want to eat the worm when your bottle of Mexicali Musk is finished, because the worm is rubber, it wears a cute sombrero and is named “Loco Louie“.

Mexicali Musk was available as:
  • 0.90 oz Premium After Shave
  • 0.90 oz Premium Cologne
  • 2.75 oz Cologne

A 1988 ad reads:
“A totally different musk, sensuous, irresistible and fun. It’ll make you a wanted man. Meet Loco Louie the worm in every Mexicali Musk bottle. His effect on women is “legendary”.”

Mexicali Musk must not have been that popular as it was discontinued shortly after its release.
