Ritz by Charles of the Ritz c1972

Ritz by Charles of the Ritz: launched in 1972. Not to be confused with the 1977 perfume Charles of the Ritz by Charles of the Ritz.

The Ritz line was housed in shiny aluminum canisters with a silver checkerboard pattern and a burgundy band. Small bottles were clear glass. The Ritz Light Perfume was housed in the same containers.

The Charles of the Ritz by Charles of the Ritz perfume was housed in burgundy canisters.

Ritz was available in the following products:

  • 2 oz Perfume
  • 2 oz Perfume Spray
  • 2 oz Double Perfume
  • 1/4 oz Triple Perfume Pencelle
  • 4 oz Perfume Powder Spray
  • 7 oz Perfumed Dusting Powder
  • 3 oz Perfumed Body Powder

The Perfume Pencelle worked much like a magic marker, a little sponge tip applicator inside of an aluminum tube to leave a trace of Ritz perfume on the skin.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as an intense floral chypre fragrance for women with woodsy overtones. It starts off with a green aldehydic top, followed by a sweet floral heart, layered over a warm, powdery base. Woodsy floral.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, galbanum, peach, hyacinth
  • Middle notes: jasmine, lily of the valley, carnation, orris, geranium, ylang ylang
  • Base notes: sandalwood, amber, oakmoss, musk, Virginia cedar, incense

Fate of the Fragrance:

Discontinued, date unknown.

In 1976, Ritz Light Perfume was introduced.

  1. I found this perfume soon after I left school in 1975, absolutely loved wearing it but haven't been able to find it for many years now. I'd love to know if anything made today has a similar scent.
