Welcome!

Welcome to my unique perfume blog! Here, you'll find detailed, encyclopedic entries about perfumes and companies, complete with facts and photos for easy research. This site is not affiliated with any perfume companies; it's a reference source for collectors and enthusiasts who cherish classic fragrances. My goal is to highlight beloved, discontinued classics and show current brand owners the demand for their revival. Your input is invaluable! Please share why you liked a fragrance, describe its scent, the time period you wore it, any memorable occasions, or what it reminded you of. Did a relative wear it, or did you like the bottle design? Your stories might catch the attention of brand representatives. I regularly update posts with new information and corrections. Your contributions help keep my entries accurate and comprehensive. Please comment and share any additional information you have. Together, we can keep the legacy of classic perfumes alive!

Les Parfums Rival

Les Parfums Rival was established by Jean Chavelier at 166 avenue de Neuilly, Seine, France in c1910.

Address at 35 rue Marboef, Champs-Elysees, Paris in 1946.

The perfumes of Les Pafums Rival:

  • 1943 Bois du Sud (warm woodsy perfume)
  • 1945 Barocco
  • 1946 Eau de Rival
  • 1946 Cuir (leather)
  • 1946 Chypre (typical chypre)
  • 1946 Huis Clos (floral woody amber)
  • 1946 Ondés (floral aldehyde leathery)
  • 1946 Poivré (spicy oriental)
  • 1960 Mirobolan (leathery chypre)
  • 1970 Red Poppy (floral semi-oriental amber)
  • 1981 Musk Oil (leathery chypre)
  • Jasmin
  • Occident
  • Pour Monsieur (lavender soliflore)

L'Amour de l'art, 1950:
"Bois de Sud by Rival: cedar from Lebanon, dark ebony from Macassar, pale sycamore, incorruptible sandalwood burnt in the temples of Mysore, resinous cedar and jasper evoke this scent of the south which is perhaps an invitation to leave for travelers on place and those repressed from adventure.

Huis-Clos by Rival: On a perfumed confidence the door closed in a quivering of muslin... On the caressing gathers of a negligee, Huis-Clos - perfume of fine parts - adds one more mystery to the charm of femininity.

Ondes by Rival: subtle and haunting like any fluid, it exhales in successive waves, giving off the aroma of the most colorful flowers as well as the poignant smell of Russian leather."
