Vacances by Jean Patou: launched in 1934 (though some people say it came out in 1936, but this is when Patou trademarked the name). Created by Henri Almeras. The French word Vacances translates to vacations, and this perfume was created to commemorate the introduction of mandatory paid vacation in France.

Perfumes in Ancient Egypt

A few years ago, I owned a wonderful boxed set of seven recreated ancient perfumes entitled "The Fragrant Past: Perfumes of Cleopatra & Julius Caesar". These were made expressly for an exhibition at the Emory University Museum of Art & Archaeology in 1989. The seven ancient perfume formulas were prepared by professor Giuseppe Donato, Director Emeritus of the Institute of Applied Technologies, National Research Council of Italy. The perfumes are non-alcoholic oil based and are basically skin scents, with little sillage.

Black Cashmere by Donna Karan c2002

Black Cashmere by Donna Karan: launched in 2002. Created by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Donna chose the name because for her black cashmere is the ultimate fabric, it and best reflects her aesthetic.  She described it as "calming and protective." But something that could be worn day or night.

Ciara by Revlon c1973

Ciara by Revlon: launched in 1973. (pronounced SEE-AHR'-AH). There was one year at Revlon when all the fragrances seemed to have something to do with the name Charles Revson. Ciara (a poetic arrangement of Mr. Revson's initials), then Cerissa (another play on the initials CR).

Welcome!

This is not your average perfume blog. In each post, I present perfumes or companies as encyclopedic entries with as much facts and photos as I can add for easy reading and researching without all the extraneous fluff or puffery.

Please understand that this website is not affiliated with any of the perfume companies written about here, it is only a source of reference. I consider it a repository of vital information for collectors and those who have enjoyed the classic fragrances of days gone by. Updates to posts are conducted whenever I find new information to add or to correct any errors.

One of the goals of this website is to show the present owners of the various perfumes and cologne brands that are featured here how much we miss the discontinued classics and hopefully, if they see that there is enough interest and demand, they will bring back these fragrances!

Please leave a comment below (for example: of why you liked the fragrance, describe the scent, time period or age you wore it, who gave it to you or what occasion, any specific memories, what it reminded you of, maybe a relative wore it, or you remembered seeing the bottle on their vanity table, did you like the bottle design), who knows, perhaps someone from the company brand might see it.

Also, if you have any information not seen here, please comment and share with all of us.
