Reve D'Or by LT Piver c1889

Reve D’Or by LT Piver was originally launched in 1889 as a woman’s cologne.

Its French name translates as “dream of gold” or "Golden Dreams" and was named after the particular breed of roses with butterscotch and cream petals.

In 1905 it was slightly reformulated and incorporated methyl aldehyde to give it a sparkling top note. The parfum extrait was reformulated in 1926 by Louis Armingeat.

Mori and Valmy Perfumes

An importing company known as Parfums Francais, Inc of New York was in the business of importing French perfumery essences and blending them domestically in the United States to lower production costs. The company purchased surplus crystal perfume bottles from Baccarat, that I assume were no longer going to be produced. Parfums Francais most likely bought them at a very low wholesale price.

Parfums Francais had various French perfumery concerns under their belt: Mori, Valmy, Parfums d'Anjou, Parfums de Choisy and Parfums Odeon. All five perfume company's logos were designed identically.

Mori, Paris was first established in 1908 in Paris France and may have been affiliated to Fontanis. Mori's operations closed in 1931. I am wondering if they were either absorbed by another company named Valmy or if the company name was changed to Valmy around 1933, as some of Valmy's perfumes had the same names as Mori such as Pour Toi, Viens, L'Heure de Minuit.

Cristal Nancy

Sometimes, collectors will come across perfume or cologne bottles acid etched with Cristal Nancy.

Cristal Nancy is not Daum Nancy. Cristal Nancy is the name for Cristalleries de Nancy, established in 1921 on the initiative of Jules Bayet, and located directly across from the famed Daum Nancy glass manufacturer on land donated by the Fruhinsholtz Company. Cristalleries de Nancy poached several of Daum's glass blowers and with their help, produced high end, expensive cut crystal products, mainly perfume bottles, which were their specialty. Auguste Houillon, a talented sculptor created many products for the company.

Muguet de Bois by Coty: launched in 1913 and created by Francois Coty.

I did find reference to Muguet des Bois by Coty in a 1919 price list in the Druggist's Circular and again in 1925 and 1934.

Fioret

Fioret (pronounced Fee-O-Ray) was a luxury perfume house founded in 1914 by a man named Simon Jaroslawski (also known as Simon A. Jaroslawski-Fioret) and went into liquidation in the      mid 1940s. His other two perfumery companies are Ybry and Mÿon.

Joy by Jean Patou c1929

Jean Patou wanted to send a gift of appreciation to his many regular international clients who would be unable to visit Paris in that first year of the Great Depression. He asked Henri Almeras to create something very strong, yet simple, no matter what the cost. This lead to the creation of the costliest perfume in the world, Joy.

Welcome!

This is not your average perfume blog. In each post, I present perfumes or companies as encyclopedic entries with as much facts and photos as I can add for easy reading and researching without all the extraneous fluff or puffery.

Please understand that this website is not affiliated with any of the perfume companies written about here, it is only a source of reference. I consider it a repository of vital information for collectors and those who have enjoyed the classic fragrances of days gone by. Updates to posts are conducted whenever I find new information to add or to correct any errors.

One of the goals of this website is to show the present owners of the various perfumes and cologne brands that are featured here how much we miss the discontinued classics and hopefully, if they see that there is enough interest and demand, they will bring back these fragrances!

Please leave a comment below (for example: of why you liked the fragrance, describe the scent, time period or age you wore it, who gave it to you or what occasion, any specific memories, what it reminded you of, maybe a relative wore it, or you remembered seeing the bottle on their vanity table, did you like the bottle design), who knows, perhaps someone from the company brand might see it.

Also, if you have any information not seen here, please comment and share with all of us.
